10 Reasons to Eat Sprouts

Screen Shot 2014-12-18 at 11.14.53 PM

Sprouts truly are the best locally-grown food, yet not enough people eat or grow them. Considering there many health and environmental benefits, it’s time to consider adding sprouts to your diet. Here are 10 reasons to eat more sprouts:

1. Experts estimate that there can be up to 100 times more enzymes in sprouts than uncooked fruits and vegetables. Enzymes are special types of proteins that act as catalysts for all your body’s functions. Extracting more vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential fatty acids from the foods you eat ensures that your body has the nutritional building blocks of life to ensure every process works more effectively.

2. The quality of the protein in the beans, nuts, seeds, or grains improves when it is sprouted. Proteins change during the soaking and sprouting process, improving its nutritional value. The amino acid lysine, for example, which is needed to prevent cold sores and to maintain a healthy immune system increases significantly during the sprouting process.

3. The fiber content of the beans, nuts, seeds, or grains increases substantially. Fiber is critical to weight loss. It not only binds to fats and toxins in our body to escort them out, it ensures that any fat our body breaks down is moved quickly out of the body before it can resorb through the walls of the intestines (which is the main place for nutrient absorption into the blood).

4. Vitamin content increases dramatically. This is especially true of vitamins A, B-complex, C, and E. The vitamin content of some seeds, grains, beans, or nuts increases by up to 20 times the original value within only a few days of sprouting. Research shows that during the sprouting process mung beansprouts (or just beansprouts, as they are often called) increase in vitamin B1 by up to 285 percent, vitamin B2 by up to 515 percent, and niacin by up to 256 percent.

5. Essential fatty acid content increases during the sprouting process. Most of us are deficient in these fat-burning essential fats because they are not common in our diet. Eating more sprouts is an excellent way to get more of these important nutrients.

6. During sprouting, minerals bind to protein in the seed, grain, nut, or bean, making them more useable in the body. This is true of alkaline minerals like calcium, magnesium, and others than help us to balance our body chemistry for weight loss and better health.

7. Sprouts are the ultimate locally-grown food. When you grow them yourself you are helping the environment and ensuring that you are not getting unwanted pesticides, food additives, and other harmful fat-bolstering chemicals that thwart your weight loss efforts.

8. The energy contained in the seed, grain, nut, or legume is ignited through soaking and sprouting.

9. Sprouts are alkalizing to your body. Many illnesses including cancer have been linked to excess acidity in the body.

10. Sprouts are inexpensive. People frequently use the cost of healthy foods as an excuse for not eating healthy. But, with sprouts being so cheap, there really is no excuse for not eating healthier.

All Berry Jam!

Screen Shot 2014-12-03 at 9.22.42 PM

You know how they say: “For optimum health and cleansing your body always start your morning with fruits.”?

In fact, what we are doing is breaking our fast with fruit which is very light and gentle to our stomach after 8 hours of not eating.

This Raw Jam is one of the greatest breakfast or mid-day snack one can find! It’s fresh, organic, raw, nutritious, no added sugar and SO healthy. And you know that berries are the best for burning excess body fats!

I’ve been hocked up with Organic almond/hazelnut butter which is again all raw, for past 7-8 years and now it seems that I can’t start my day without it! (We are still working to have this product added to our Organic products for you.). Try these two together and you will see what I mean! 🙂 Soooooo Goooood!

The preparation time for this Jam is 10-mins.

What do you need:

– 1 cup fresh berries
– 1 tablespoon chia seeds
– 1 tablespoon raw honey – you can use two tablespoons of honey if you want it more sweet.
– 1 tablespoon water

Instructions:

For each cup of berries, add 1 tablespoon chia seed and 1 tablespoon raw honey. Leave the chia seeds in water for a 2-3 minutes for it to absorb the water.

Remember berries tend to be very high in pesticide residue so it’s always the best to buy organic. You might want to check out the dirty dozens again for this.

I go by mashing the berries using a fork rather than using blender. If you are using a blender, just be careful not to blend them so much as you will end up with lots of juices and it will be more like a Jelly than a jam! 🙂

Place the jam in fridge for at least 1 hour to set up. You can keep this jam in the fridge for one week. As making this jam is so easy, I always make it in a smaller amount and make a fresh one every 3-4 days.

Enjoy!

No Chemicals! Just a Bag of Vinegar!

Tie a Bag of Vinegar Around Your Shower Head to Clean It with No Effort!

Your shower head is prone to buildup of all sorts of nasty stuff, and it can be a pain to clean if you do it the hard way. All you have to do is to fill a bag with vinegar, place it around the shower head so it’s submerged in the liquid, and tie it to the neck with a twist tie (or anything else, really). Leave it there overnight and the cleaning will be handled for you.

Roasting a Turkey For The Thanksgiving?

Screen Shot 2014-09-24 at 9.50.12 AM

For those who will going to roast a turkey for the Thanksgiving here is a trick for an all juicy and tender Turkey!!

I’d like to share this fantastic recipe I used last year and the turkey turned out great and juicy! The Turkey breast was all juicy and tender!!

The trick is, after you have the turkey ready for the oven, place the turkey upside down, on the breast rather than on it’s back. This will direct all the juices to the breast…At the end to change the colour of the breast and make it look more roasted and more orange, I brush some butter and Saffron(real one and good quality) and leave it in the oven for another 15-20 minutes.

Click here if you are interested to try the recipe.

How to choose a ripe Watermelon?

Screen Shot 2014-11-14 at 1.16.17 PM

How do you choose a ripe Watermelon?

have you ever wondered, why people tapping on watermelons in the super markets before picking one? Well this is a way of choosing a ripe Watermelon.

This is how you do it: Hold the Watermelon in one hand and tapping firmly at the middle of the melon. When tapping, use all your hand and not just fingers .

You are looking to hear a hollow sound…like beating a drum. You feel that the sound bouncing back to your hand.

I always pick Watermelons by this tapping technique and it never goes wrong! 🙂

Winter is approaching and not to forget that Watermelon is our best friend when it comes to cough and cold, soar throat or flu. Watermelon is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants which strengthen the immune system so it can fight the infections.

Enjoy!
