Depressed and No Motivation?

Every time I feel down and depressed or my body feels heavy and tired, I know that I’m out of balance and it’s time for Green Juicing.

So first I start drinking lots of water and remind myself of drinking at least one glass of green juice everyday!

I use whatever available in the fridge:

Cilantro or Parsley
Carrot

Ginger
Lemon juice

Step 1: Turmeric paste

INGREDIENTS:

– 1/4 cup of turmeric powder
– 1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper
– 1/2 cup of filtered water

PREPARATION:

Place all the ingredients into a sauce pan and cook over medium-heat, stirring often. Stir until the mixture becomes thick and paste like, it shouldn’t take long. Allow the mixture to cool and then store in the refrigerator.

Step 2: “Gold milk”

INGREDIENTS:

– 1 cup of almond milk (hemp or coconut milk is also a good option)
– 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
– 1/4 teaspoon or more of turmeric paste
– Honey

PREPARATION:

Mix all ingredients except the honey in a pot for cooking. Place the pot over medium heat. Stir constantly, without letting it boil. Add honey at the end for taste.

High Blood Pressure? Go for Whey!

What is Whey and what are the benefits?

Whey is a natural substance, the liquid part of fresh milk that is left over from the making of cheese, or sitting on top of your yogurt and has been used for health related reasons for more than 24 centuries. Hippocrates (446-337 BC), the father of medicine, prescribed it to his patients. Following him, Galen (131 BC-200BC), another founding father of medicine, advised his patients to use whey. Since then, it has been a recommended substance for improving health in many different regions of the world.

Yogurt whey because of its high content of Protein and 19 essential Amino Acids, been always used in traditional medicine for 24 centuries:

– To lower the blood pressure
– To increase the immune system
– To lose weight
– To heal the digestion ailments

 

In 1749, a patient, who could not be cured by his doctors, went to the Swiss mountain village of Gais where he was healed by drinking whey on a daily basis. Word spread and people flocked to Gais to benefit from the miraculous properties of whey protein. A health spa was soon opened in this tiny village, followed by more than 160 spas across Switzerland, Austria and Germany. These spas were most active throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth century, catering to emperors and aristocrats from all across Europe.

How to make Whey at home?

Line a fine mesh sieve with cheese cloth, and set it over a large bowl. Pour the yoghurt into the lined sieve, and let it drain over the bowl.

I drained 3 hours (in the fridge) to reduce the liquid by 50%. I was left with 1 liter of whey, and 1 liter of thick yoghurt. You may let the yogurt drained for more hours if you like to get more Whey out of the yogurt.

Scoop the yogurt into an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to one week.

Drink the liquid Whey everyday for 1-2 weeks. At the same time, keep an eye on your blood pressure and monitor the changes. You won’t regret the result.

Organic! Healthy! Delicious!

I made this for the dinner last night and it was really Delicious!

Remember our Pesto sauce and that how we could use it on everything? If not, you may find it here.

I got some zucchini and green beans at home. Mixed them with some onion and the Pesto sauce which I had it ready in the fridge and Voila! 😉

Soooo easy to make. Here is how:

Ingredients:

1- 2 tablespoons Pesto Sauce

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

1 green onion, coarsely chopped

1 tablespoon Olive Oil

1 pound green beans, stem end trimmed

12 ounces zucchini, halved lengthwise, each half cut lengthwise into 1/3-inch-wide strips

3 tablespoons water

some Himalayan salt and pepper for seasoning

Preparation:

Heat oil in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add vegetables; stir until coated. Sprinkle with salt and 3 tablespoons water. Cover; cook vegetables until almost crisp-tender, stirring occasionally, about 4 minutes. Uncover; cook until vegetables are just tender, about 2 minutes longer. Stir in enough sauce verte to coat vegetables generously. Season with Himalayan salt and pepper.

Olive oil? Fake or Real?

So how do we know whether or not the olive oil we are buying is not fake?

1. Harvest Date: Check the Bottle for a Harvest Date Before Buying that Expensive “Extra Virgin” Olive Oil. The key to picking a good olive oil? Check the label for freshness. If the bottle you’re holding doesn’t have the date, that should tell you something on its own.

2. The region: Where it comes from? This means the specific region not just the country.

3. The cultivars: Or what olives the oil is composed of.

4. The Grade: Pay attention to the grade of the Olive oil.

“Extra virgin” is the highest grade for olive oil.

– “Pure” which is such a great word from a marketing standpoint, indicates to a lot of    consumers. that they’re buying the very best olive oil but in fact, it’s a lower grade.

– “Refined” doesn’t mean elegant or high class. Refined means just the opposite. Refined olive oil has been processed with solvents to mask off odours and flavours since the first pressed was done with low grade olives and refining would cover that up.

If these essential elements are missing, it doesn’t speak well to the quality of the oil or the producer.

Have you tasted Organic Basil? It tastes like heaven…!

Basil with it’s great aroma always been part of the Mediterranean and Italian cuisine.

Basil can fight chronic diseases, reducing inflammation and swelling.

Basil effectively is an Anti-aging. Holy-Basil (Tulsi) truly is one of the “Nature’s Miracle” which has properties that can kill off harmful molecules and preventing Free-Radicals in the liver, brain and heart.

Tulsi has been one of India’s most sacred herbs for more than 5000 years. For generations, it’s been used for immune system and most of all for calmness and releasing stress.

Keep this sauce/paste in a jar in your fridge. This can be kept for a few weeks in the fridge no problem!

Organic Basil, two bunch
Garlic 3-4 cloves (or more if you like)
Olive oil (real one!), As desire

Mix Organic Basil, garlic and olive oil in a blender till you get a very smooth mixture. Add Olive oil little by little till you get that thickness you desire. Keep this sauce in the fridge. You can use this sauce on everything you like!

To make a salad dressing, just add some fresh lemon juice to 1-2 table spoon of this sauce and mix it with your salad. Or you can eat it as a dipping sauce with bread and cheese!

So Yummy!
